EduCongo is proud to salute and celebrate individuals and organizations for their outstanding service to humanity! Ubuntu is a Zulu word that captures the essence of being human.

“My humanity is bound up in yours, for we can only be humans together” Desmond Tutu

This month, we are proud to salute PETER OKANTEY!

Peter feels strongly that accessible education in Ghana and Africa, as a whole, is the answer and key to many of its problems, including corruption, poverty and disease. Peter Carlos Okantey devotes his time and resources working for the NAPE Foundation, speaking and consulting for businesses (for-profit and non-profit) with The Okantey Group Inc. in the area of leadership, management, coaching, and mentoring. Peter is currently pursuing his Doctoral Degree in Strategic Leadership at Regent University’s School of Global Leadership and Entrepreneurship in Virginia, USA.

Peter has worked as a teacher and compiled data from households for a population census in Ghana. In addition, he spent one year as a Training Assistant with World Education, a non-profit organization in Ghana assisting in the implementation of an HIV/AIDS curriculum in teacher training colleges throughout Ghana, which included hosting focus groups and training teachers.

Peter Okantey is from Ghana, West Africa. He has been residing in Portland, Oregon for almost five years. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a Master’s Degree in Management and Organizational Leadership both from Warner Pacific College. Peter received the 2009 Young Alumni of the Year Award in January 2009 from Warner Pacific College. He also holds a teaching certificate from the Presbyterian College of Education in Ghana, West Africa and a Public Administration Diploma from the University of Ghana in Ghana, West Africa.

EduCongo’s Executive Director, Lou Radja, along with five global citizens from Portland, Oregon, went on a 11-day trip to South Africa and to the Democratic Republic of Congo (October 21 to November 1, 2008). The purpose of the trip was to build a bridge and connect global citizens on both sides of the Atlantic as well as to support our efforts for education in the Congo. To celebrate the trip and to raise awareness about our efforts, on November 23, 2008 we had our Congo Night Event with Friends of EduCongo! We will announce next year’s trip dates March 1st, 2009!

Please take a moment and look through our gallery of photos taken from this year’s Seeds of Hope Trip.
And stay tuned, as we’ll be announcing plans for the next EduCongo event soon!
[Gallery not found]
